Party Tips |
Serve Champagne
While your guests are arriving, serve champagne. This
tip does two things: It sets the party mood. It also
allows your guests to begin the wine tasting experience,
because champagne is a wine you know.
Number of Guests
To have a great party, you don't need to have a lot of
guests. As a matter of experience, we have found that
about four couples (8 people total) is plenty. If you
want to enjoy the party as well, include yourself as a
registered guest. Assign the bottle opening to someone
else. Give small jobs to other guests as well. This will
help to take some of the pressure off of you and give
the guests some responsibility. Besides, too many guests
and there won't be enough of the good stuff for you!
Don't be a wine snob
If you are spouting off quips and quotes like "This wine
is a bit placid yet makes up for it with it's tannic
overtones and fluttering nose" people may leave early.
Taste is a very personal thing. Some folks may love a
wine while others may hate it. You may want to educate
your guests with a few words, but keep the party light
and fun.
How Much Wine
to Buy
Budgeting is always a tough call. How much to buy
depends on the type of guests you've invited. A good
rule of thumb is 2 bottles per guest. Not that each
person will drink 2 bottles, but everyone may like the
same vineyard, and that 'one' bottle just won't last
very long. |
